No-GI BJJ

No-gi BJJ submission grappling classes at Fighting Fit Manchester:

  • Tuesday and Thursday 6pm-7pm, taught by 3rd degree BJJ Black Belt Martyn Cahill

  • Friday 1pm-2pm, taught by BJJ black belt and pro MMA fighter Jack Claffey

Who is this class for?

This class is for people who are interested in grappling without wearing the traditional Brazilian Jiu-jitsu uniform. Maybe you have a background in other forms of grappling that don’t use a gi either, and want to try BJJ out this way. Or you might already have been practicing BJJ in the gi, and now you want to branch out and expand your grappling skills. Either way, our no-gi BJJ class is the one for you.

What are your no-gi BJJ / submission grappling classes like?

Our no-gi BJJ classes are mixed ability, with all skill levels being in the same group, so it can be useful if you already have some grappling knowledge.

The coach will demonstrate techniques in front of the class, which you will then practice with your partner. If you are struggling with a technique or have any other queries on what is being shown to you, feel free to ask the coach for guidance – they’re there to help!

After practicing the techniques, there will be time to drill. This is where you practice the specific techniques with some resistance from your partner, so you can get a more realistic feel for how the moves work.

The class finishes with live sparring, where you’ll get to roll with different partners. In this you will be able to test out any techniques you know whether it is from today’s class or from previous learnings! Whatever moves you are attempting, remember to focus on properly applying the technique, as this is key for your development in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Our head coach, Martyn Cahill, is a third degree BJJ black belt who has been training in martial arts for over 20 years. He has carefully crafted a curriculum to follow, which will accelerate your learning as one technique flows into another.

Aside from the coaches, you will see several black and brown belts on the mats who have been through the no-gi BJJ curriculum before you and are happy to help!
